One of the Greatest Muay Thai Kickboxing Fights Ever

This is a great Muay Thai fight between Sakmongkol and Jongsanan Fairtex that takes place in Thailand. If you are a Muay Thai student at Crazy 88 or just a fan of Muay Thai and standup fighting in general, please watch this fight in its entirety as it is just a phenomenal match.

This is under full Muay Thai rules so that means the Wai khru ram muay (pre-fight “dance) and that full clinching and elbows are allowed (these rules are extremely rare in the United States). There are some SERIOUS elbows thrown in this match (with surprisingly few cuts) and some good clinch work as well. Muay Thai is one of the few standup styles that allows extended clinch work. Even in the most popular standup organizations such as K-1, the rules limit the extent to which the fighters can fight from the clinch, one of Muay Thai’s strongest positions.

Pure Muay Thai scores kicks and clinch attacks of greater importance than punches so you will notice that the fighters concentrate a lot on leg techniques. You’ll also notice the extremely upright stance taken by both fighters; since there is less emphasis on punching, there does not need to be as much weight on the front leg.

Don’t be disappointed by the first round; the first round in Muay Thai is often used a feeling-out round and is usually uneventful.  In this fight, it’s definitely the “calm before the storm.”

If this does not get you excited about going hard into the Muay Thai kickboxing program in 2010, I don’t know what will!
