We want to spotlight some of the up-and-coming grapplers coming out Team Lloyd Irvin. Because of Lloyd’s great marketing, most of the BJJ community have heard of a few individuals but there is a strong team of talented athletes backing them up as well. One of these rising stars is Blue Belt D’Alonzio “DJ” Jackson who trains out of Camp Springs, MD.
DJ started off 2009 with a division victory at the NY International Open. DJ, with approximately one year of Jiu-Jitsu training, made the Elite Eight of the World Championships, losing his match there on a controversial scoring call – DJ shot in for a single-leg and his opponent countered with an uchimata. DJ’s back hit the ground but he bounced right back up and ended up on top but his opponent received 2 points for the takedown. He closed the year out with Gold medals at the Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling Championships Qualifier, No-Gi Pan-American Championships, and No-Gi World Championships.
DJ looks to add Pan-American Gi and BJJ World medals to his medal case as well as accumulate more Mixed Martial Arts victories in 2010. He is definitely one Team Lloyd Irvin member to watch in 2010.
