For the competitors who plan on doing . . . → Read More: 2010 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Competition Schedule]]> We have been planning out next year’s schedule for the Crazy 88 BJJ competition team so we can make sure our athletes peak at the right time and also to give us ample time to get the resources necessary to make sure our guys are able to do the tournaments.

For the competitors who plan on doing the Worlds, we recommend doing at least one IBJJF event prior to June.  This year, most of the team will be doing the Europeans and the Worlds rather than the PanAms and the Worlds.

In our past experiences, we have found that the proximity of the Pan-American to the Worlds makes it difficult for some of our athletes to prepare properly.  There has been a tendency to peak for the Pan-Americans rather than the Worlds; after all, it is a huge competition… but it’s not the Worlds!  Also, the costs associated with two trips to California so close together was oftentimes problematic.  It will be an interesting test – Europe is far more expensive BUT there are 5 months in between the competitions to offset the greater cost.

After the Worlds, Crazy 88 will still be doing the smaller Gi tournaments (Miami Open, US Nationals) but the focus will shift more towards No-Gi, Mixed Martial Arts, and Muay Thai.  The IBJJF site has no definite dates for their big No-Gi tournaments but we will definitely be at those.  In my previous post on our Muay Thai program, I laid out the goal of having at least 4-5 more people have their first kickboxing smoker fight.  That is still on the books.

I think I might send 2-3 people to the Rio International Open / International Masters and Seniors this year as well…
